Mývatn Nature Baths
The Blue Lagoon of North Iceland
Often called "The Blue Lagoon of the North," Mývatn Nature Baths offers a more intimate and natural geothermal experience with stunning views over Lake Mývatn and the surrounding volcanic landscape. The baths draw water from the Bjarnarflag geothermal area — unlike the Blue Lagoon, the water here is alkaline and contains no salt, making it gentler on skin and hair.
Natural Waters
- Fed by runoff from Bjarnarflag geothermal area
- Water temperature: 36–40°C (97–104°F)
- Rich in minerals and silicates
- Naturally filtered through lava rock
- Alkaline water — no salt, gentler on skin and hair than Blue Lagoon
The Lagoons
Two interconnected lagoons offer varying temperatures and depths, allowing you to find your perfect spot.
- Main lagoon: deeper, cooler areas with stunning mountain backdrop
- Secondary lagoon: shallower, warmer areas with natural stone bottom
- Two natural steam caves at 50°C with traditional rock floors
- Kvika Restaurant: local Icelandic specialties with panoramic viewing deck
