SkyRoad is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect minimal data, store everything locally on your device, and never sell or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Information We Collect

Location Data

SkyRoad uses your device's location to:

  • Show your position on the map
  • Calculate distances to weather stations, gas stations, and points of interest
  • Provide turn-by-turn navigation guidance
  • Monitor driving conditions on your route (Guardian Angel feature)

Important: Your location data is processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit, store, or track your location on any server.

Local Storage

The following data is stored locally on your device:

  • Your preferences (units, language, notification settings)
  • Favorite locations and saved places
  • Recent trip history
  • Cached weather and road condition data for offline use

This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time through your device settings.

Third-Party Services

SkyRoad fetches data from the following public services to provide weather and travel information:

  • Icelandic Meteorological Office (vedur.is) - Weather forecasts, road conditions, and aurora activity
  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center - Solar wind and aurora forecasting data
  • OpenStreetMap - Map tiles and routing
  • Gasvaktin - Real-time fuel prices in Iceland

These services receive standard network requests but no personal information is shared with them.

Crash Reporting

We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports. This helps us identify and fix bugs. Crash reports contain:

  • Device type and operating system version
  • App version
  • Technical crash information (stack traces)

Crash reports do not contain your location, personal information, or any data you've entered in the app.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell your data
  • We do not show advertisements
  • We do not track your behavior or create user profiles
  • We do not share your information with third parties for marketing
  • We do not require account creation

Data Retention

All user data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app removes all data. We do not retain any personal information on our servers.

Children's Privacy

SkyRoad does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require personal information to function.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
